To set up an item for pre-order on your online shop follow the steps below:
- Set up the item the same as you would for any in-stock item, but with a few differences:
- Make it clear in the product title and description that this is a pre-order item, and will ship at a later date.
- You can put the expected shipping date in the product description if you have it.
- Pro Tip: copy and paste the following shortcode into your item description to make it stand out as an alert (You can edit the “please note…” text between the brackets):
[alert]Please note: this item is a pre-order item. It will ship at a later date.[/alert]
- Decide on shipping. Will your order be available to ship, or limited to pickup only? If you are allowing shipping, you will need the final shipping dimensions of the item.
- Adjust your product settings just as you would a regular product, making sure to select any relevant categories or shipping class.
- Publish the product when you are ready!
If you have a specific window for pre-orders, be sure to remove the product from the shop by setting its status to “Draft” on your cut-off date.If you would like to communicate with the customers who purchased the product, say, to let them know that the product has shipped or is ready to be picked up, you can pull a list in your Metorik account:
- Log into your Metorik dashboard and head to the “Orders” tab
- Apply a filter “Order Products, include, …” and select the pre-order product from the product field.
- Click “Segment Orders” to see the list:
- To download the list and get a list of emails, click “Export….Orders”, and choose how you would like to receive the export. This export will contain the email addresses of the customers who purchased the item. If you email these customers, remember to follow FTC guidelines for ethical email practice.
If you have Metorik Engage set up on your shop, you can also reach these customers with an automation. Reach out to us for hepl with this, if needed:
