How To Scan Barcodes

How To Scan Barcodes

What Is A Barcode Scanner?

A Barcode scanner is a nifty device that uses a laser to scan barcodes to recognize your Inventory Items. Scanning an item’s barcode is a quick and easy way to add the item to the order screen, saving you the time it takes to search for the item on the menu in Arryved Service. This article shows you how to scan items to order in Arryved Service.

Prerequisites

  • You have entered SKUs to your Inventory Items in your Arryved Portal and created corresponding barcodes.

  • You have a barcode scanner that’s configured to Arryved Service.

  • Make sure your scanner is charged up and ready to go! We recommend charging the scanner every few days.

Limitations

  • LASER WARNING: Never point the scanner at your or anyone else’s eyes.

  • The barcode scanner will shut off automatically after 15 seconds of inactivity.

  • When the scanner is on and paired, it may replace the Android keyboard. When the scanner turns off or is disconnected, the Android keyboard comes back. This is because the keyboard gets in the way of naming the tab when there’s a scanner paired.

  • The barcode scanner can’t read barcodes on a screen, they need to be printed on paper or physical merchandise.

How It Works

  1. Turn the barcode scanner ON using the power switch on the back.

  2. Open Arryved Service and log in.

  3. From the TAB screen tap on an active tab, then tap Order. Or, tap New to begin a new tab.

  4. Grab the item with a barcode that your guest wants to purchase.

  5. Point the barcode scanner to the barcode and use your index finger to pull the trigger.

  6. You’ll hear a beep and see the SKU appear and disappear quickly in the orange box on the screen. Then, the item appears on the order screen.

If the item scanned has multiple Unit Sizes with the same SKU, a window appears allowing you to select the size needed.

  1. From there, you can scan more items, tap Send to save the tab, or close the tab and collect payment.

If you see a text dialog appear stating “No item by this SKU,” this means the SKU is incorrect or the barcode isn’t associated with a SKU in your Arryved Portal.
