Epson KDS Hardware Checklist

Epson KDS Hardware Checklist

Overview

In this article, you will find a list of all the physical hardware you need for your KDS. Notice that some items are provided by Arryved and some items you will need to source on your own. The items labeled "optional" may be important, please read the guidelines to decide if you need optional items.

Prerequisites

  1. You have begun with the KDS Setup Guide.

  2. You completed Step 1 and decided on Single Screen or Multi-screen setup.

Limitations

  • A PC Windows 7 or higher is required to use the Configuration Utility. Mac not supported.

  • Touch screen monitors are not supported.

  • Monitors need to be ethernet wired to your network router. Monitors do not work on WiFi alone.

Talk to your Implementation Manager to request a hardware package. They will configure the equipment for you so you can just plug and play. Here are the items included in the Arryved hardware package:

1. Monitor(s)

Minimum of one screen needed. Can have up to 9 screens in a multi-screen setup.

Includes:

  • 1080p resolution.

  • 1 VGA cord.

  • 1 power cord.

2. Printer

Only 1 printer is needed for either single or multi-screen setup. However, in a multi-screen setup, if you want more than one station to hard print tickets along with the digital display, then additional printers will be required.

Epson OmniLink Printer: Model TM-U220-i

  1. Includes the software needed for KDS configuration.
  2. Ethernet cable needed (not included).

3. Bump Bar(s)

In most cases, 1 Bump Bar is needed for each monitor. In some cases a Bump Bar is not needed. For example, a guest facing screen that is for display only and does not need to be managed.

Bematech KB1700 Bump Bar

  • Used to manage orders on the monitor (move, select, etc.).

  • USB cable included.

4. Expansion Module(s)

Only 1 printer is required for a multi-screen setup. For each additional display, you can use an Expansion Module, also known as a Controller. The Expansion Module holds the information displayed on the monitor just as a printer would. However, if you want the display to print hard tickets as well, an additional printer is needed instead of the Expansion Module. Expansion Modules do not print.

Epson Print Controller/Extender

  • Ethernet cable needed (not included).

5. TV Wall Mount (Optional)

The monitors come with feet, but you may want to mount it on the wall to save counter space. Arryved offers wall mounts that are optional for purchase.

Not Provided By Arryved

6. PC Computer

A PC Windows 7 or higher is needed to configure your KDS. Your KDS will come configured already by an Arryved Specialist, but in the event you want to make changes, a PC will be needed. Mac OS is not yet supported. You can call your Implementation Manager or the Arryved Support team to help you with configuration needs, but a PC on site is needed for our staff to guide you through it.

7. Ethernet Cables

Ethernet cable (Cat5e or Cat6)

  • 1 needed for the printer and 1 for each expansion module or additional printer if using multi-screen.

  • Connects the main printer to the router and the expansion module(s) or additional printers.

  • Cat5e or Cat6 ethernet cables are supported.

  • Ethernet cables are not provided by Arryved, please make sure you have them prior to installation.

8. Ethernet Switch (Optional)

A switch acts as an extension from your router and provides additional ethernet ports. You will need a switch if your router is not close enough to the printer to connect with the ethernet cable or if you do not have enough ethernet ports in your router. An ethernet cable will be no longer than 295ft. A switch is highly recommended for multi-screen setup to ensure you have enough cable ports to connect all of your hardware.

Arryved does not provide this item, but here is our recommendation.

9. USB Speaker (Optional)

A USB speaker can be used to emit a sound when orders come in, alerting staff.

  • Bluetooth or Auxiliary speakers are not supported.

Gut Check!

Before we proceed to the set up, do you have everything you need? Please review these common issues:

  • Do you have all the ethernet cables you need?

  • Did you figure out if you need an ethernet switch or not?

  • Did you decide if you want sound (USB speaker)?
