How To Create Item Modifiers

What Are Item Modifiers?

Generally speaking, "Modifiers" are customizations or adjustments that your guests can request for their food and drink. They provide the special instructions to your kitchen or bar to prepare the menu items as the guest requested.

In your Arryved POS, Item Modifiers are the individual modifications you'd like to offer. Use this guide to learn how to create the Item Modifiers that fit your business.

Prerequisites

  • To create or edit Item Modifiers, you must be an Arryved Portal Super Admin or an Admin with one of the following Portal permissions:

    • INVENTORY

    • ALL ACCESS

    • FULL ADMIN

Limitations

  • Arryved does not support nested modifiers at this time.

How It Works

Think about the different components of your menu items that can be customized, removed, or substituted, or other things that can be added. Item Modifiers can also be any kind of note you need to send with the ticket, such as allergies or prep instructions.

Examples Of Item Modifiers

  • Condiment options

  • Protein options

  • Cheese options

  • Side options

  • Toppings

  • Drink garnishes

  • Upcharges

  • Substitutions

  • Ingredients commonly removed

  • Allergies

  • Meat temperatures (rare, medium rare)

  • Prep instructions (cut in half, toasted, tossed)

Creating Item Modifiers

Think about all of the possible modifications you want to offer for your menu items, and let’s get them added to your Arryved Portal.

  1. Head to your Arryved Portal.

  2. From the left side navigation, click Inventory.

  3. Click Modifiers.

  4. From the bottom of the list, click +New

  5. Fill out the fields to customize the Item Modifier. Learn more about each field below.

  6. Click Save.

    • Pro Tip! After you save a Modifier, use the Clone button to duplicate it so you can create similar Modifiers quicker!

1) State: Make the Item Modifier Active, Inactive, or Out (Kicked).
  • Active: This Item Modifier is in stock and available for sale/use.

  • Out (Kicked): This Item Modifier is in circulation but out of stock until replenished.

  • Inactive:  This Item Modifier is unavailable indefinitely.

2) Modifier Name: The full name of the Item Modifier that is visible in Arryved Portal and reporting.

3) Search Hints: Add a few keywords that will help pull up this Modifier in a search.

4) Ticket Display Name: This name will appear when ordering in Arryved Service and on printed tickets or KDS screens. You may want this name to be shorter than the full Modifier Name.

5) Type: At this time, only the Temperature type has an action. The other types are inactive. Adding the Temperature Type to a will make that Item Modifier appear first on a printed ticket. We recommend adding this type to your meat/burger temperature Item Modifiers, but you can use it for any Item Modifier.

6) Price: Add a price to this Item Modifier if it has an upcharge.

7) Restrict to Category: By selecting a Category from the dropdown, this Item Modifier will be restricted to apply only to Item Types within that Category.
