Generally speaking, "Modifiers" are customizations or adjustments that your guests can request for their food and drink. They can also provide special instructions to your kitchen or bar to prepare their Menu Items as requested.
In your Arryved POS, “Item Modifiers” are the individual modifications you'd like to offer.
“Modifier Groups” let you group Item Modifiers together for easy ordering. You can then add any of those Modifier Groups to any Inventory Items, so that staff and guests are prompted to make the necessary choices to go with those Items when ordered.
To create or edit Modifiers, you must be an Arryved Portal Super Admin or an Admin with one of the following Portal Permissions:
INVENTORY
ALL ACCESS
FULL ADMIN
Arryved does not support nested modifiers at this time. Meaning, Modifiers can’t be modified themselves.
Modifiers are not tracked by Inventory Quantity.
Add any Required Modifier Groups to any of your Inventory Items to require the guest or service staff to make a selection when they place an order with those Items. Here’s an example:
Modifier Group: Choice of Cheese
Item Modifiers in this Group: Cheddar, Swiss, Pepper Jack, Gouda
Applied to an Inventory Item: You can add this Modifier Group to your burger or sandwich Items to require the server or guest to select a choice of cheese when they order one of those Menu Items.
When ordering an Item in Arryved Service, the Modifier Screen will automatically pull up if at least one of the Modifier Groups is set to Required (meaning they have a Min > 0).
If all the Modifier Groups are optional or there are no Modifier Groups applied to the Item, then the Modifier Screen won’t automatically appear, but tapping on the Item will pull it up.
All required and optional Modifier Groups will appear to the guest when ordering through Arryved Online or OpenTab. Any required Groups will need to be completed by the guest, and any optional Groups are there to let them know what else they can modify if they want, but are not required to.
Meat Temperatures
Choice of Side
Choice of Bread
Choice of Cheese
Choice of Sauce
Drink Rim
Salad Toppings
Pizza Toppings
P.S. The Name of the Modifier Group will be visible to staff in Arryved Service as well as your Guests ordering through Arryved Online or OpenTab. Make sure the Name is descriptive enough to let the person ordering know what they need to do.
Head to your Arryved Portal.
From the left side navigation, click Inventory.
Click Modifier Groups.
From the bottom of the list, click +New.
Fill out the fields to create the Modifier Group.
Click Save.
2) Min: This is the minimum number of choices the guest must select out of this Modifier Group when prompted.
For example, if the entree comes with 2 side choices, then the “Choice of Side” Modifier Group should have a Min of 2.
The Min can also be 0 if the guest doesn't need to choose anything, such as “Choice of Sauce” - No sauce, please.
If the Min is set to one or more, this Modifier Group becomes Required.
If the Min is set to 0, this Modifier Group is Optional.
3) Max: The maximum number of selections the guest will be allowed to make. The system will restrict them from making any more selections once they reach the max. This number can be anything greater than zero.
In the “Choice of Side” example, if the guest can only have 2 sides with their entree, then the Min and the Max will both be 2.
For something like Pizza toppings, maybe the Min is 1 or 0, and the Max is 10 or more.
4) Add Modifiers to Group: This is where you select the Item Modifiers you want to add to this Group. These will be the options that the guest can make from that Group.
Start typing the name of the Item Modifier or the Search Hints. Click on it from the dropdown list to add it.
You can drag and drop the pill-shaped Item Modifiers to rearrange their order. The order they are here is how they’ll appear to staff and guests when ordering.
You can add Item Modifiers to a Modifier Group from the Item Modifier page in Portal, too!
Assign Modifier Groups to Inventory Items to make ordering smoother for your staff and guests. The required and optional Modifier Groups you add here will appear on the Modifier Screen for this Item when it’s ordered.
From the left side navigation of your Arryved Portal, click Inventory.
Click Inventory Folders.
Click on the folder of your choice.
From the folder, click on an Inventory Item of choice.
Click the Modifiers dropdown to expand the section.
Click + Add Modifier Group.
Select the Modifier Group you need from the first dropdown.
The other 3 dropdown boxes are optional and can be used to further customize the Modifier Group for this specific Item. Learn more about them below.
Click Save when finished.
2) Select Price Floor: Use the Price Floor tool if you want to adjust your upcharges for this item. By selecting a specific Modifier as the Price Floor, you’re allowing any Modifiers with equal or lesser value to be added to this Item for no extra cost. Any Modifier that has a higher upcharge will apply the difference in price to the Item.
For example, if you set an Item Modifier with a $0.50 price as the Price Floor, any Modifiers that are $0.50 or lower will be free when added to this Menu Item. Then, let’s say a Modifier priced at $2.00 is applied to this Menu Item, it will add an additional $1.50 to the bill.
Adding a Price Floor is optional; skip it if you don’t need it.
3) No Size Set: If you want this Modifier Group to be assigned to a specific size of this Item, you can specify that here. To apply to all sizes, you can leave it at ‘No Size Set’ or select ‘Apply to Item’.
This feature may need to be enabled for your business. If you don’t see size options in the dropdown, contact Arryved Support to enable it for you.
4) ALL: Choose whether you want this Modifier Group to apply to this Item when ordered in Arryved Service (SERVICE), Arryved Online & OpenTab (ONLINE), or both (ALL).
Pro Tip! If you want to rearrange the order of the Modifier Groups for this Item, you can click and drag the icon made of 6 squares to each one to move them. The order they appear here is how they’ll appear to staff and guests when they order this Item.
When checked, your staff will be able to apply any Item Modifier in your system to this Item - even Modifiers that are not in the Groups assigned to the Item.
If you would prefer to restrict the Modifiers that can be applied to this Item, then uncheck this setting, and add the Modifier Groups that you will allow to be ordered with this Item.
The “Allow Service To Apply Any Modifier?” box is checked for all Items by default.
