How To Create Modifier Groups

How To Create Modifier Groups

What Are Modifier Groups?

Modifier Groups let you categorize similar Item Modifiers together, then you can add a Modifier Group to an Inventory Item so the guest or server is prompted to make a selection from that Group whenever that Item is ordered. Use this guide to learn how to set up your Modifier Groups and apply them to Items.

Prerequisites

  • Create your Item Modifier first.

  • Create your Inventory Items first.

  • To create or edit Modifiers, you must be an Arryved Portal Super Admin or an Admin with one of the following Portal Permissions:

    • INVENTORY

    • ALL ACCESS

    • FULL ADMIN

Limitations

  • Arryved does not support nested modifiers at this time.

How It Works

Add any Modifier Groups to any of your Inventory Items to prompt the guest or server to make a selection when those items are ordered through your POS. Here’s an example:

  • Modifier Group: Choice of Cheese

  • Item Modifiers in this Group: Cheddar, Swiss, Pepper Jack, Gouda

  • Applied to an Inventory Item: You can add this Modifier Group to your burger or sandwich Items to prompt the server or guest to select a choice of cheese when they order one of those Menu Items.

Other Examples Of Modifier Groups

Modifier Groups are often labeled as a question or prompt:

  • Meat Temperatures

  • Choice of Side

  • Choice of Bread

  • Choice of Cheese

  • Choice of Sauce

  • Drink Rim

  • Salad Toppings

  • Pizza Toppings

Creating Modifier Groups

  1. Head to your Arryved Portal.

  2. From the left side navigation, click Inventory.

  3. Click Modifier Groups.

  4. From the bottom of the list, click +New.

  5. Fill out the fields to create the Modifier Group.

  6. Click Save.

1) Modifier Group Name: This is how the Modifier Group is labeled. This name will appear in the prompt when an Item with this Modifier Group is ordered through the POS.

2) Min
: This is the minimum number of choices the guest must select out of this Modifier Group when prompted.
  • For example, if the entree comes with 2 side choices, then the “Choice of Side” Modifier Group should have a Min of 2.

  • The Min can also be 0, if the guest doesn't need to choose anything, such as “Choice of Sauce”- No sauce, please.

  • If the Min is set to one or more, this Modifier Group becomes required.

  • If the Min is set to 0, this Modifier Group is optional, but the server or guest will still be prompted to make a selection or skip it.

3) Max: The maximum number of selections the guest is allowed to make. This number can be anything greater than zero.

  • In the “Choice of Side” example, if the guest can only have 2 sides with their entree, then the Min and the Max will both be 2.

  • For something like Pizza toppings, maybe the Min is 1 or 0, and the Max is 10 or more.

4) Search for Modifiers to add: This is where you select the Item Modifiers you want to add to this Group. These will be the options that the guest can select from when they’re prompted to make a selection.

  • Start typing the name of the Item Modifier or the Search Hints. Click on it from the dropdown list to add it.

  • You can drag and drop the pill-shaped Item Modifiers to rearrange the order in which they will display in the POS.

Apply Modifier Groups to Inventory Items

When you add a Modifier Group to an Inventory Item, the server guest will be prompted to make a selection from that Group when they order that Item through the POS.

  1. From the left side navigation of your Arryved Portal, click Inventory.

  2. Click Inventory Folders.

  3. Click on a Folder of choice.

  4. From the Folder, click on an Inventory Item of choice.

  5. Click the Modifiers dropdown to expand the section.

  6. Click + Add Modifier Group

  7. You must make a selection from each of the four dropdown fields. Learn more about each dropdown field below.

  8. Click Save.

1) Select Modifier Group: Click to expand a list of all of your Modifier Groups. Pick one from the list to add to this Inventory Item.

2) Select Price Floor: Select one of the Item Modifiers in the Group to set as the Price Floor. If the guest chooses this Modifier, it will be included in the price of the Menu Item. If they choose a Modifier that has an upcharge above the price floor, the price difference will be added to the bill.

  • For example, if you set an Item Modifier with a $0.50 price as the Price Floor, any Modifiers that are $0.50 or lower will be free when added to this Menu Item. Then, let’s say a Modifier priced at $2.00 is added to this Menu Item, it will add an additional $1.50 to the bill.

3) No Size Set: You can choose a specific Size to set this Modifier Group to, and it will ignore the other Sizes of this Item. Leave it at “No Size Set” to apply to all Sizes.

  • This feature may need to be enabled for your business. If you don’t see size options in the dropdown, contact Arryved Support to enable it for you.

  • This feature cannot be used with Arryved Online or OpenTab. To set a Size here, you must have “SERVICE” selected in the next dropdown below.

4) ALL: Choose whether you want this Modifier Group to apply to this Item when ordered in Arryved Service (SERVICE), Arryved Online & OpenTab (ONLINE), or both (ALL).
