How To Create Item Types

How To Create Item Types

What Are Item Types?

Item Types are for organizing your inventory. They create buttons in Arryved Service that your menu items are grouped under for easy ordering. You’ll create whichever Item Types you’d like, unique to your business needs, and assign them to each of your Inventory Items. Item Types are also helpful for tracking and filtering your Arryved reports.

Prerequisites

  • You’ll need to create your unique Tax Types beforehand so you can assign these Tax Types to your Item Types.

  • To create or edit Item Types, you need to be a Portal Super Admin or an Admin with one of the following Portal Permissions:

    • INVENTORY

    • TIMED MENU CONFIGURATION

    • ARRYVED VIEW

    • ALL ACCESS

    • FULL ADMIN

Limitations

  • Item Types are assigned a Tax Type. Only one Tax Type can be applied to each Item Type.

  • You’ll choose an Item Category for each Item Type. Only one can be applied. Categories are chosen from a preset list made by Arryved. You can’t create custom Categories.

  • Item Types create buttons in Arryved Service to group your Inventory Items. They aren’t related to your Inventory Item Folders in your Arryved Portal. Those are used just for Portal organization.

How It Works

Watch the video then follow the guidelines below to create Item Types.

In your Arryved Portal, you’ll create as many Item Types needed for your unique business. Remember, Item Types are used to group your individual Inventory Items under buttons in Arryved Service and to group items in your reporting.

Examples Of Item Types

They can be any sort of grouping really. Here’s some of what we’ve seen,

  • Appetizers, Entrees, Desserts, Draft Beer, Cocktails, Wine List

  • Whiskey, Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Liquors

  • Bourbon, Rye, Irish Whiskey

  • IPAs, Fruity & Sour Beers, Light Beers, Dark Beers

  • Burgers, Sandwiches, Soups, Salads, Smoked Meat, Sides, Tacos, Pizza

  • Merch, Bottles, Cans

  • Or any combination of the above, or anything else you can think of!

Creating Item Types

  1. Head to your Arryved Portal.

  2. From the left side navigation, click Inventory.

  3. Click Inventory Settings.

  4. Click Item Types.

  5. Scroll to the bottom of your Item Types list to enter a new one into the blank fields.

  6. Follow the guidelines below to properly fill out the Item Type fields.

  7. Click Save when finished!

  1. Name

In the Name field, give the Item Type a name. Remember, these names will appear on the buttons that house your active menu items within Arryved Service.

  1. Category

Item Categories are in a preset list provided by Arryved. Choose one of the Item Categories from the dropdown list that best represents the Item Type. You can have numerous Item Types in the same Category.

The Item Category determines which ticket type the items within this Item Type are routed to when ordered. Each Item Category is matched to either the Bar or Kitchen ticket type or is set to No Print. Read the Default Printers Setup Guide for more information on print routing.

  1. Tax Type

Choose which Tax Type to apply to this Item Type. Read How To Create Tax Types for a refresher. You must create the Tax Types first for them to appear in this dropdown menu.

  1. Button Priority

The buttons that Item Types create in Arryved Service are arranged by Button Priority. The lowest number is positioned first. Chances are, you’ll probably want to organize the Item Type buttons into a logical order for your business.

The buttons on the order screen are set up in a grid with three going across. We recommend drawing out a quick sketch of how you want your button layout to look and then assign a number to each Item Type in the Button Priority field.

A good practice is to start out by assigning each Item Type a number that is a multiple of 10, so if you add a new Item Type later, you can use the in-between numbers and not have to re-number each one.

See an example in the image below. The purple rectangles are the Item Types (buttons) and the numbers in the orange circles are the Button Priority values assigned to them.

  1. Allow Tax Exempt

Check this box to allow the Item Type to be tax-exempt. When a Tax Exempt ID is entered with a tab in Arryved Service, any Tax Exempt Item Types are tax-free on that tab. Consult an accountant if you are unsure if this applies to you. Learn more about Tax Exempt

  1. Charge RSF

Check this box to charge a Retail Service Fee on the Item Type. If you need more information, please reach out to your Implementation Manager or Arryved Support.
