Network Setup Guide 3: Install & Configure

Network Setup

The Arryved systems function off a wireless network (WiFi). Unreliable WiFi or physical hardware issues will affect your daily operations and guest satisfaction. A properly installed and configured network is critical for optimal use of Arryved products. Every network setup is unique. Arryved can provide you with recommendations for an effective and successful network setup, but cannot provide full instructions as every instance is very different. This article will provide you with basic and advanced network setup recommendations.

Prerequisites

  • If you are setting up a network in your new establishment for the first time, read Introduction To Network Success to consider whether you need a basic or advanced hardware setup.

  • Then, read Network Hardware Requirements And Recommendations to ensure you have all the necessary hardware.

  • If network knowledge is not your expertise, you will likely need to involve an IT/Network specialist in this process.

Basic Network Setup Requirements

Read through and consider the following network setup steps.

  • Visible Network Name (not hidden) to easily pair devices.

  • The network your POS devices are on should be set up on a single channel, either 5GHz or 2.4GHz. Avoid broadcasting your SSID (network name) on dual-band (meaning both channels at the same time).

  • Make sure the WiFi network used for the Arryved POS devices and products is password protected.

    • Use a strong password; include letters, numbers, and special characters.

  • Test your WiFi strength. Read How To Test Your WiFi Strength

Advanced Network Setup Recommendations

Router Settings

You will need to log into your router settings through a web browser to make these updates. Contact your Internet Service Provider or IT/Network Specialist if you are unsure how to do this.

  • Set your Arryved POS devices to take priority over guest/other devices. Not all routers offer this, you may need to handle this with bandwidth instead.

  • Allocate a majority percentage of the bandwidth to the POS network segment. Throttle the remainder to the guest network (if you can’t prioritize certain devices).

  • Set the DHCP pool to .2-.200. Reserve higher static IP addresses for POS devices and printers.

  • Have Isolation Mode OFF or cross-network communication ON (however it's worded on your router). Leave the default if this has never been changed before, it will be correct.

  • Keep ping (ICMP echo/reply internal/external) available to allow a Ping Test to be run for diagnostics.

Software Ports

Please leave the following software ports open for access to printers, servers, and other necessities.

Internally required ports

  • 9100 TCP (receipt printers / cash drawers)

Externally required ports for Arryved Service

  • 10011 TCP (Arryved API servers)

Externally required ports for Portal access

  • 80 TCP

  • 443 TCP

For printer diagnostics

  • 3289 UDP

Outbound Traffic

  • We'd also like to make sure outbound traffic is allowed for standard ports. Do not block emails, Google Hangouts, etc.
