How To Test WiFi Strength With Android

How To Test WiFi Strength With Android

Network Analysis On Android

A strong network connection is essential because we’re about to have a bunch of devices connected to the WiFi at once. Not to mention your guests’ mobile devices, too, if you’re offering guest WiFi! The last thing we want to happen is a disruption of business and good times due to poor network health.

If your business is onboarding with Arryved for the first time, setting up a brand new network, or has made recent changes to your network, let’s test your network strength! Follow the steps in this article to perform a network analysis and send the results to your Implementation Manager so they can make sure you’re set up for success!

Prerequisites

  • Have an Android device handy (such as your POS Tablet).

  • Connect the Android device to whichever WiFi network you want to test.

  • Any basic network knowledge should get you by in this process, but if you’re having trouble, you may need to bring in an IT/Network specialist.

How It Works

Step 1: Access The WiFiman App

We use an App called WiFiman to run a network test

Install WiFiman

Here are three ways to get the App,

  1. If you already have your Arryved POS devices, we’ve likely pre-installed WiFiman for you; find it on the Apps list

  2. If you don’t see it on your Arryved device or you’re using your own Android, search for it in the Google Play Store or click the link, WiFiman on the PlayStore.

  3. Or, scan this QR code.

Open WiFiman

Once the WiFiman app is installed on your device, open it. The first time the app opens, you’ll need to allow the permissions requested.

  1. Tap Request Location Permissions.

  2. Tap While using the app.

  3. Tap Allow.

  4. Tap Close

Alright, you’re in! Continue reading to start your WiFi test.

Step 2: Test Your WiFi Strength

  1. With the WiFiman App open, double-check the network name at the top is the correct network you’d like to test and tap Start Speed Test

  1. Walk around your establishment, and cover any ground where you plan on using Arryved devices or printers. The RSSI will change as you move around.

  2. The big shiny number in the middle is testing your WiFi speeds, which is cool, but we’re looking for strength! Strength is measured in dBm. Look for the dBm Signal once the test completes and the results appear.

    • A strong and healthy WiFi signal lives between -30 dBm and -60 dBm.

    • If your signal falls outside the -30 dBm to -60 dBm range, contact your IT specialist for a diagnostic. You’ll want to resolve any issues before continuing your business operations.

Step 3: Inform Your Implementation Manager

Take a screenshot of this entire screen once the Test Results are showing, just like the image below, to send to your Implementation ManagerBe sure the dBm is visible. Don’t use the ‘share results’ button; it doesn’t do the job we need.
