How To Test WiFi Strength With Android

Network Analysis On Android

Network success is vital to the success of any business, especially those using a fair amount of technology. If your business is onboarding with Arryved for the first time, setting up a brand new network, or has made recent changes to your network, testing your network strength is imperative! Follow the steps in this article to perform a network analysis and send the results to your Implementation Manager.

Prerequisites

  • Have an Android device handy.

  • Connect the Android device to the WiFi network you want to test.

  • If network knowledge is not your expertise, you will likely need to involve an IT/Network specialist in this process.

Limitations

  1. If network knowledge isn’t your expertise, you’ll likely need to involve an IT/Network specialist in this process.

How It Works

A strong network connection is essential because we’re about to have a bunch of devices connected to the WiFi at once. Not to mention your guests’ mobile devices too if you’re offering guest WiFi! The last thing we want to happen is a disruption of business and good times due to poor network health. If there are any network issues, we want to catch them early.

WiFi Analyzer App

We use an App called WiFiman to run a network test

Install WiFiman

Here are three ways to get the App,

  1. If you already have your Arryved POS devices, we’ve likely pre-installed WiFiman for you, find it on the Apps list

  2. If you don’t see it on your Arryved device or you’re using your own Android, search for it in the Google PlayStore or click the link, WiFiman on the PlayStore.

  3. Or, scan this QR code.

Open WiFiman

Once the WiFiman app is installed on your device, open it. The first time the app opens, you’ll need to allow the permissions requested.

  1. Tap Request Location Permissions.

  2. Tap While using the app.

  3. Tap Enable Bluetooth scan.

  4. Tap Allow.

  5. Tap Close

Alright, you’re in! Continue reading to start your WiFi test.

Test Your WiFi Strength

  1. With the WiFiman App open, double-check that the network name at the top is the correct network you’d like to test and tap Start Speed Test

  1. The big shiny number in the middle is testing your WiFi speeds, which is cool, but we’re looking for strength! Strength is measured in dBm. Look for the dBm Signal in the top left corner.

    • A strong and healthy WiFi lives between -30 dBm and -60 dBm.

  2. Walk around your establishment, and cover any ground where you plan on using Arryved devices or printers. The dBm (a.k.a the RSSI, a.k.a the Signal) will change as you move around.

  3. If your signal falls outside the -30 dBm to -60 dBm range, contact your IT specialist for a diagnostic. You’ll want to resolve any issues before continuing your business operations.

  1. When the test is complete, you’ll see the results appear under the Start Speed Test button. If you run more tests, the results begin to form a list on this screen. Click on the results of the test you just ran to expand all the information.

  2. Take a screenshot of this entire screen, just like the image below, to send to your Implementation Manager.

Inform Your Implementation Manager

To help better serve your network needs in the future, your Implementation Manager wants to keep a record of your network analysis. Take a screenshot of your network information and send it along!

  1. From the WiFiman App, toggle to the Wireless section from the bottom navigation.

  2. The WiFi you just tested will have a “Linked” badge next to it. Click on that network.

    • Take a screenshot of this entire screen as well.

  3. Send both screenshots to your Implementation Manager if you have their email handy, or to the general team at customersuccess@arryved.com
