The steps below will show you how to make an IP address static (not changeable) from the device itself, however, it is strongly advised to do this from the Router Settings instead. If you do the steps through the device itself, and the router tries to assign the same static IP address to another device, it will fail. On the other hand, if you set the static IP address through the router, it will properly prevent the router from trying to use that static IP address. Read the steps below to get a good idea of what it looks like to change an IP to static, then try to do so in your router settings. Every router is different, so we cannot offer a single set of instructions for router settings. Involve your IT specialist if unfamiliar with router settings.
Open the Device’s Settings from the homescreen or apps list.
Tap Connections.
Tap WiFi.
Long press and hold down your Network Name.
Tap Manage Network Settings.
Tap Show Advanced Options.
If the long press/hold didn’t work, you may have a newer device. Instead tap on the gear icon next to the Network Name, then tap View More to expand more options.
Tap on IP Settings.
Toggle from DHCP to Static.
