How To Test Gift Card Compatibility

How To Test Gift Card Compatibility

Gift Card Compatibility

Were you selling gift cards with your previous POS? Do you have blank gift cards left over you’re hoping to load and sell through Arryved? We can help determine if your physical blank gift cards are compatible with the Arryved Service POS and if we can upload your gift card liability report into your Arryved Portal so already issued cards can be redeemed. Use the steps in this guide to test your gift card compatibility with Arryved.

Prerequisites

  • To test your blank, unloaded gift cards you’ll need a POS device with Arryved Service (or Arryved Service Sandbox), a card reader paired to it, and 3 blank gift cards.

    • If you have various generations of gift cards (cards that have different numerical prefixes), you’ll need 3 from each generation.

  • You’ll need a copy of your current gift card liability report from your previous POS. The report must show the full gift card numbers and their outstanding liabilities. You may need to contact the POS’s support team to track down the report.

  • Read the Gift Cards Overview guide to familiarize yourself with how gift cards work with Arryved.

Limitations

  • We can’t guarantee that your blank gift cards or your existing gift card liability report will be compatible with our system. Here are a few reasons we’ve seen incompatibility:

Failed Blank Cards

  • Gift card IDs that contain letters or symbols.

  • Gift card numbers that appear in Arryved Service when swiped don’t match the numbers on the physical cards.

Failed Liability Reports

  • Gift card numbers on your liability report don’t match the physical gift cards.

  • Gift card numbers on your liability report aren’t fully visible.

How It Works

We need to test two things:

  1. If your physical, blank gift cards are compatible with the Arryved POS.

    • If they are compatible, you can load them with a balance and sell them in Arryved Service.

    • If they aren’t compatible, you won’t be able to load them with a balance, you’ll need to purchase new ones to sell. However, existing gift cards that have a balance are still able to be accepted as payment in Arryved Service, so long as the liability report can be uploaded.

    • We see compatibility on blank cards about half the time.

  2. If your existing gift card liability report can be uploaded in your Arryved Portal.

    • If the report can be uploaded, you can accept those outstanding gift cards as payment in Arryved Service.

    • If the report can’t be uploaded, unfortunately, those outstanding gift cards can’t be used as payment through the Arryved POS.

    • We see compatibility on the liability report almost always.

1. Test Your Blank Gift Cards

We’ll ask you to take some photos and screenshots during this testing period to send to your Implementation Manager so they can determine compatibility.

  1. Grab the gift cards you’re testing, the POS device, and paired card reader.

  2. Take a picture of the front and back of each of your physical gift cards.

  3. On the device, open Arryved Service and Log in.

  4. Tap STAFF from the top navigation bar.

  5. Tap Gift Card Query.

  1. Swipe the first gift card through the card reader.

  2. Right after you swipe, take a screenshot showing the gift card information.

    • To take a screenshot, generally, you need to click the lock button and the volume down button at the same time on the device.

  3. Repeat these steps for each gift card you’re testing and take a screenshot for each.

2. Send Your Liability Report & Screenshots

  1. Begin an email to your Implementation Manager at customersuccess@arryved.com.

  2. Type “Gift card compatibility” as the subject line.

  3. Attach the pictures of the physical cards, the screenshots from Arryved Service, and your liability report.

  4. Add a nice little message and send it!

Next

Your Implementation Manager will get back to you shortly with their insight into your blank gift cards and liability report and guide you toward the next steps from there.

What if the blank gift cards are incompatible?

You’ll need to purchase new gift cards to load and sell in Arryved Service that are compatible.

  • Arryved supports gift cards with a 13-digit number, and track 2’ data magstripe. This is most cards with a swipeable strip on the back, like the one on your driver’s license.

  • We like to order gift cards from Innovative Card Solutions, but you can use another source you’re familiar with, as long as they meet the above requirements.

What if my liability report can’t be uploaded?

Unfortunately, those gift card outstanding balances can’t be redeemed as payment in Arryved Service. Here’s what we’ve seen other Merchants do:

  • Keep your liability list handy internally and Comp (discount) the tab in Arryved Service at the value of the gift card. You can create a “Gift Card” Comp Type in your Arryved Portal.
