How To Split A Tab

How To Split A Tab

What Is A Split Tab?

Guests in a group will often want their checks separated so they can pay for their own portion. Arryved Service makes any split super easy with its mighty tab-splitting powers! There are numerous ways to split up a tab and the items on it so your guests don’t have to worry about settling up among each other later. This article shows you all the ways a tab can be split.

Prerequisites

  • A split is for an active tab with at least one item on it.

Limitations

  • A Quick Close transaction can’t be split.

  • Once a partial payment has been made on a tab, it can no longer be split.

  • A tab that started in OpenTab, must be split in Arryved Service.

  • If a tab has more than 25-30 orders placed on it, we may be unable to spit it.

  • When splitting a tab even ways, checks may differ by a few cents due to rounding.

How It Works

To split a tab in Arryved Service,

  1. From the TAB screen, search for the tab you want to split.

  2. Tap on the tab.

  3. From the Running Tab Window, tap Split

You’ll be taken to the tab-splitting screen. The items on the tab are visible in the Parent Tab at the bottom half of the screen. The new split tabs will populate above in the 'Checks' section.

There are three ways to use the split function,

  1. Even split

  2. Split by Seat Numbers

  3. Custom split

Even Split

This is an easy one, split the tab even ways by the number of guests who want to pay. Here’s how to do it.

  1. From the tab-splitting screen, tap the Even button from the left side.

  2. Select a number from the prompt. The tab will split into equal portions sharing all items evenly.

  3. Review the drafted split checks and tap Done from the left side.

Let’s say you split the tab three ways, you’ll see one-third of each item on all three split checks.

  • The Parent Tab remains in the bottom half with one-third of each item. If there was a card on file for this tab, it’s attached to the Parent Tab.

  • Two new split checks appear in the top half of the screen.

  • Tap the 1 or 2 at the top to toggle the view between those checks.

Split By Seat Number

If Seat Numbers have been applied to each order on the tab, the tab can be split by each Seat Number with a quick tap.

  1. From the tab-splitting screen, tap Seats

    • Separate checks will populate based on the Seat Numbers used. Items ordered under each Seat Number appear on their respective split checks.

    • The Parent Tab will be empty. If one of the guests wants to pay with the card on file, tap on their items, then tap into the Parent Tab to add them back in.

  2. Review each person’s check looks correct. Tap on the numbered checks at the top to toggle your view.

    • Pro Tip! If you think an item belongs on someone else’s check, tap the item (it’ll highlight in blue) then tap into the blank space of the check you want to move it to.

  3. If everything looks good, tap Done from the left side.

Custom Split

Seat Numbers and even splits are pretty standard, but here’s where the magic happens. With a custom split, you can split a tab in all kinds of ways.

  1. From the tab-splitting screen, tap + Check.

    1. This creates a new blank split check above the Parent Tab.

    2. Tap + Check again to keep adding as many blank split checks as you need.

  2. From the Parent Tab, tap on items to highlight them, then tap on the blank space of any of the new split checks to move them over.

    1. If there is no blank space left (many items have filled the space) then you'll need to tap into the header of the split check instead.

  3. If you long-tap an item for two seconds, you can split just that item evenly on the checks of your choice.

    1. This is great for a shared dish! Each guest in the group of three can pay for one-third of the appetizer as well as their own drinks and entrees.

  4. Review each person’s check to ensure it looks correct. Tap on the numbered checks at the top to toggle your view. If everything looks good, tap Done from the left side.

Pro Tip! If you started splitting the tab using the Even or Seats buttons, you can still use these nifty splitting tricks to move items from one check to another or to split up a single item.

Completing The Split

However you choose to divvy up this tab, you’ll tap Done from the left side when you’re finished.

  • A review screen will appear for another chance to make sure everything looks accurate.

  • Tap Split when ready.

The tab is now split into separate tabs, from the Pay Parent Tab screen you’ll see the Parent Tab with the original tab name. The split tabs have the same tab name but with a slash and a number. From this screen you can,

  1. Print the guests’ checks.

  2. Merge the split back together.

  3. Pay one or more of the checks.

  4. Tap Done to leave them active and return to the TAB screen.
