Gift cards are great for gift-giving and keeping a smile on those friendly faces that frequent your establishment! If gift cards are a must-have for your business, Arryved can help! This article shows you how to create a gift card item in your Arryved Portal that you can add to your menus for purchase in Arryved Service.
If you haven’t already, read the Gift Card Overview to learn everything you need to know about using gift cards with Arryved.
Best practice is to create a Tax Type with a 0% rate and an Item Type for your gift card item. Gift cards are sold tax-free. Tax is collected on the items purchased with the gift card later.
To create a gift card item, you must be an Arryved Portal Super Admin or an Admin with one of the following Permissions.

Creating gift cards to sell through Arryved Online requires a different setup. Read Selling Gift Cards In Your Arryved Online Store instead.
In Arryved Service, a gift card is an Inventory Item just like any other.
In your Arryved Portal, you’ll create a new Inventory Item and apply the Gift Card Item Tag to it. The Item Tag is how Arryved Service recognizes the item as a gift card.
Gift cards are treated as a liability because they are sold for the promise of goods at a later time.
When items are purchased with a gift card later, your liabilities decrease.
When adding a gift card to the order screen in Arryved Service, you’ll enter the desired balance of the card.
Next, start a new Inventory Item in your Arryved Portal and use the guidelines below to configure it.
If you need a refresher, read How To Create An Inventory Item.
Give the gift card item a name such as “Gift Card.”

Select the appropriate Item Type from the Item & Tax Type dropdown.
The Item Type you choose will have a Tax Type associated with it.
Best practice is to create a gift card Tax Type and Item Type beforehand.
Click the arrow next to Menus to expand the section.
Decide which menu(s) in which Venue(s) you’d like to sell gift cards.
Click the arrow next to Costs to expand the section.
Add a Unit Size and price.
The price is ignored when the Gift Card Item Tag is applied. Instead, you’re able to enter the desired price (or balance) at the time of purchase. A price is required to save the Inventory Item, so enter anything.
The Gift Card Item Tag tells the Arryved system that this Inventory Item is a gift card. The sale of a gift card is treated as a liability and Arryved Service will know that you need to enter the desired balance of the card when it’s added to the order screen.
Click the arrow next to Tags to expand the section.
Click +Add Tag to add a Tag.
Choose the GIFTCARD Item Tag from the dropdown list.
Don’t forget to click Save at the top or bottom of the Inventory Item page when finished!
