Your WiFi signal is measured in -dBm, which measures how much of the signal’s strength you’re losing across your space due to obstacles in the way such as walls and people. A lower measurement of -dBm is what we want! Network success is vital to the success of any business, especially your POS functionality, so testing its strength is imperative! If you’re receiving a weak signal (high -dBm), you’ll need to address the issue as soon as possible to ensure a successful business! Use this guide for tips on strengthening your WiFi signal.
To test your network’s current signal strength, use one of the following guides:
If your signal is in the -60s-70s -dBm, you’re receiving a weak signal from your router. We encourage you to try the solutions provided in this guide.
The solutions in this guide are shared tips that our award-winning Support Team has put together over the years they’ve helped our customers out of various sticky situations. However, the Arryved Support Team’s expertise lies in our POS system. When it comes to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), network, and router, Arryved can only take it so far. We strongly encourage you to consult your ISP or an IT Specialist if you’re experiencing network issues of any kind.
If your WiFi signal is weak, you’re likely not getting the best signal from your router. Here are a few tips from our Support Team that may help resolve this issue. Please consider consulting an IT professional for a proper diagnosis and a more tailored solution.
Oftentimes, it’s as easy as finding a new home for your router. Try moving your router to an area where it can get a better signal.
Place it closer to your printers and POS devices. Stick to 150-300 feet of distance depending on the quality of your router.
Avoid areas with too many walls in the way such as the back office.
Try placing it behind the bar or near the ceiling in the same room where service takes place.
When the signal is weakest around the parameters of your establishment, this likely means your router’s range can’t cover your entire space. Consider investing in additional Wireless Access Points (WAPs) to increase the router’s signal range.
We do not recommend using Wireless Extenders or WiFi repeaters. These alternatives receive and re-admit the signal which won’t work if you’re having issues with the wireless transmission in the first place.
WAPs are directly plugged into the router for guaranteed connectivity.
We don’t offer WAPs for sale through Arryved, the best recommendation we can give is to try and purchase from the same brand as your router for optimal success.
We encourage you to consult an IT specialist to help successfully connect your new WAPs if you feel you don’t have this expertise in-house.
Be sure your router is for business/commercial use. A residential router is too basic for the high volume needs of your business.
If your router came from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) it’s likely a basic model. Consider purchasing a more advanced router.
Consult your IT Specialist for recommendations on advanced and up-to-date router models.
If you make any significant changes to your network or router, please contact Arryved to keep us informed on the current state of your network so we can continue to support you along your journey.
