OpenTab by Arryved empowers guests to self-order and/or view digital menus with QR code technology. OpenTab can omit the self-ordering feature and just be used for mobile menu viewing, if that is what’s best for your business. Use this guide to set up OpenTab for menu viewing only with a single menu.
You have read the OpenTab Overview and decided that OpenTab for digital menu viewing with a single menu is the best method for your business.
This type of OpenTab setup doesn't allow guests to place orders through OpenTab. They'll only be able to view your menu with their smartphones. If you'd like to use OpenTab’s mobile self-ordering feature, head back to the OpenTab Overview and review the steps under the Self-ordering section.
The steps in this guide will set you up with a single menu across all of your Venues. If you'd like to set up different menu offerings in your various Venues, use the OpenTab Setup Guide For Menu Viewing (Various Menus) instead.
You'll create a new Venue for OpenTab. This Venue is simply used to create a menu that will the QR codes will point to. It will not represent a physical Venue you have on-premise.
In Arryved Portal, navigate to the Venue section.
Click on the + at the bottom of the drop down to create a new Venue.
Name the Venue "OpenTab" in the Venue Description and Short Form.
You can name the venue anything you want, as long as you can recognize it as your OpenTab Venue.
Click Create to finalize.
Click Edit Configuration.
Give the Venue a Public Table Name.
This is how OpenTab knows to make a QR code for this Venue. .
The name will be visible to guests when they scan the QR code (hence “public” name).
Scroll down to the bottom and add a new table by clicking + Add Table.
Fill out the fields and be sure to give it a Public Table Name.
A QR code is generated when there is a match between a Public Venue Name and a Public Table Name in that same Venue.
Give it a name that represents the menu or establishment, not necessarily the table.
When a guest scans the QR code they will see both of the public names.
Click Save when finished.
Since this is a guest facing digital menu, you will create menus based on the categories of your menu items. (For example, Appetizers, Entrees, Draft Beer, N/A Bevs, etc.). This is different from the way you may have created menus for your regular venues (Dining Menu, Happy Hour, etc.). We do this because guests will have a better ordering experience if the menu items are categorized for them.
Click on the OpenTab Venue again from the Venue list on the left.
From the Venue page, change the Venue Type in the top left corner to Online.
Click the plus sign under Menus to create a new OpenTab Menu.
If you are unfamiliar with creating menus, reference How To Create Menus.
Keep in mind, you are creating a menu for each category you would like items to live under so the guest has an easier time navigating the menu.
To create another menu after you have just created one, click on the Venue name from the left side again to get back to the main landing page.
You can use the Sort Menu Items feature to sort the categorized menus into a user-friendly order that the guest will see. You can also sort the items within each menu however you’d like. Sorting the menus will appear properly in OpenTab, but will not rearrange on the Venue screen in Arryved Portal, but trust us, it’s working!
In this step, you have the opportunity to customize the OpenTab feature to best meet your needs. Head to your OpenTab Settings in Arryved Portal and click on the link to the next guide that will explain each of the settings in detail.
In Arryved Portal, navigate to Location Settings.
Click OpenTab Settings.
From the OpenTab Menus & Ordering dropdown options, select Enable Menus Only. This is very important so that the QR codes do not allow guests to place orders.
Select your OpenTab Venue from the Customer/Guest Venue dropdown list.
Read OpenTab Settings In Arryved Portal to customize the rest of the optional settings to best fit your needs.
Click Save when finished adjusting the settings.
On the OpenTab Settings page in Portal, towards the bottom, you will see the chart titled Tables with Valid QR codes.
This chart lists all the tables that have Public Table Names and their respective Venues also have Public Venue Names.
The Tables with QR Code Errors chart will show any tables that have a Public Table Name, but the Venue they live in doesn’t have a Public Venue Name and therefore a QR code was not generated for that table.
There should only be one QR code generated here for your OpenTab Venue.
Above the chart, you will see the 3 ways you can download and print the QR codes. Read How To Print OpenTab QR Codes for full instructions, if needed.
Let’s review the step to this guide to double check everything was completed.
