Generally speaking, "Modifiers" are customizations or adjustments that your guests can request for their food and drink. They can also provide special instructions to your kitchen or bar to prepare their Menu Items as requested.
In your Arryved Portal, you’ve created Item Modifiers and Modifier Groups. Now, see how Modifiers are applied when placing orders in Arryved Service.
First, you must create your Item Modifiers and Modifier Groups from your Arryved Portal.
The ORDER Labor Role Permission is required for an employee to place an order and use Modifiers in Arryved Service.
We recently revamped how Modifiers work in the Arryved system. To enjoy the latest version of Modifiers as mentioned in this guide, one of your Arryved Portal Super Admins needs to turn on the ‘Enable Modifiers V2’ Location Preference.
Please update Arryved Service to the latest version on all of your POS devices to enjoy the newest version of Modifiers. Your devices must be on Arryved Service 2.16 or higher.
If the ‘Allow Service to Apply Any Modifier?’ box is unchecked for an Inventory Item in your Arryved Portal, then only Modifiers within the Modifier Groups assigned to that same Item can be ordered with it in Arryved Service. No other Item Modifiers can be applied.
Any Menu Item that has at least one Required Modifier Group (Groups configured with a minimum of 1 or more) assigned to it, the Modifier Screen will prompt automatically when that Item is added to an order.
From the Modifier Screen, the server can see what’s required and ask the guest how they’d like to customize or modify their order.
For example, it may be required for the guest to select a meat temperature, type of cheese, and choice of side with their burger.
Open Arryved Service and log in.
Start a new order on a new or active Tab.
Add a Menu Item to the order that has Required Modifier Groups.
Make a selection from the first Modifier Group.
Required Modifiers Groups are shown in rectangular tiles along the top of the Modifiers screen; the first one will be highlighted and open automatically.
The Item Modifier Group’s options are shown in square tiles underneath. Tap on one to make the selection.
Sometimes it’s required to make more than one selection from a Modifier Group. You must select the minimum that’s required.
Once fulfilled, the Modifier Group tile becomes green with a checkmark.
If the Item has multiple Required Modifier Groups, the system will move to the next one automatically to help save time, but you can jump around if needed.
After all required Modifier Groups are fulfilled, the ‘Add Item’ button is enabled, and the Item can be added to the order.
You can select from any Modifier Group in any order: If a guest provides their side choice before you’ve asked for their preferred meat temperature, don’t worry, you don’t have to follow the order shown on the screen. Simply tap into the required Modifier Group you need, make the appropriate selection, and then move on to the next Modifier Group as needed
If any Optional Modifier Groups (Groups configured with a minimum requirement of 0) are applied to a Menu Item, they’ll appear on the Modifier Screen, too, but it’s not required to make a selection from them; they’re just there for convenience.
For example, guests may often request to add and remove different burger toppings, so adding an Optional Modifier Group for burger toppings would make it easier for servers to quickly place a modified burger order.
If there are no Required Modifier Groups assigned to the Item, then the Modifiers Screen won’t prompt automatically. Instead, tap on the Item from the order to open the Modifiers screen. From there, you’ll see any Optional Modifier Groups and can use the search bar to find other Modifiers or write notes.
Tap on one of the Modifier Actions (Add, No, or Sub), then make a selection from the Optional Modifier Group(s) to add, remove, or substitute something.
Price Calculations:
Add: Adding a Modifier applies any upcharges to the Item. Selecting a Modifier option from a Group will always add it.
No: Implies removal of a component of the Item, therefore does not add any additional charge
Sub: Implies you’re trading one thing for another as an even exchange, therefore does not add any additional charge.
As long as the ‘Allow Service to Apply Any Modifier’ setting is enabled for this Menu Item, any Item Modifier can be applied to it.
If you don’t see the modifier you’re looking for, use the search bar to find a Modifier you need by name or its Search Hints. Once you see the Modifier tile appear, tap on it to apply it to the Item. Don’t forget to toggle from ‘Add’ to ‘No’ or ‘Sub’ if needed.
If you need to make a note or modification that does not already exist as an Item Modifier in your Arryved Portal, you can type it into the search bar and, if the system can’t find a match, it will prompt you to add it as a note.
The tiles showing the Modifier selections are color-coded to help service staff quickly see what’s what:
Green: Added Modifiers (required or optional selections and upcharges)
Red: Modifiers removed (‘No’)
Purple: Modifiers substituted (‘Sub’)
Yellow: Modifier Note
Blue: Item Modifiers that have the “Temperature” Type.
Heads up! On a printed ticket, there are only two ink colors: Black and red. Red for upcharges, black for everything else.
