How you serve your guests plays an important role in your hardware setup. Here’s what to consider:
Counter Service: Are your guests coming up to a counter or window to place orders?
Full Staff Service: Are staff members coming to guests' locations, providing full service?
Hybrid: Do you offer a little bit of both?
Arryved offers Tablet and Handheld options for your POS devices.
Tablets come in 10” or 8” Android displays.
Tablets can be placed in a metal stand to be stationed on a counter or moved around (they aren’t too heavy even with the stand). Or, placed in a protective foam sleeve to move about even more freely.
Tablets are recommended for counter or hybrid service models. Even if you solely provide full staff service, you may consider a tablet stationed at your bar.
Handhelds
Handhelds are the size of an Android smartphone.
They can be held in one hand and typically fit in a server apron, pocket, or fanny pack.
Handhelds are generally sold in their protective case with their supported card reader attached to the back, but those 3 items can be sold a la carte if preferred.
Handhelds are recommended for staff or hybrid service models.
Multiple card readers can be paired to the same Android tablet or handheld, but in Arryved Service only 1 reader can be selected at a time for that device. There are currently two types of card readers we offer:
MagTek card readers are swipe only.
BLE means the reader is paired by Bluetooth.
With the MagTek BLE, you can leave a card on file.
These readers can be attached to your POS device or left stationary on a counter, cash drawer, etc.
BBPOS readers use tap, chip dip, and Google/Samsung/Apple Tap to Pay.
Swiping is only offered as a backup if tap and dip fail.
BBPOS does not support cards on file, Arryved’s Offline Mode, or gift card payment. For this reason, It’s recommended to have at least 1 backup MagTek BLE reader.
BBPOS readers can be attached to the back of a handheld device or must remain 100% stationary if paired with a tablet.
Tablets are accessorized to meet your mobility needs. Here’s what to consider when purchasing accessories:
For POS tablets that’ll remain (mostly) stationary.
The metal stand keeps the tablet sturdy and props it up closer to eye level.
For POS tablets that’ll be moving about more freely.
The sleeve is simply a protective cover that’s lightweight and helps prevent damage from dropping and spillage.
The Koozie is a protective case for your MagTek BLE card reader that attaches it to the top of your POS tablet.
If the tablet may be moved around sometimes or often, use the Koozie.
The Extender provides a little more stability for a stronger swipe.
The Extender is a protective case for your BLE card reader that can be stickied on a counter, cash drawer, wall, or anywhere else, but once it’s attached somewhere, it’s to remain 100% stationary.
Pro Tip! If you attach it to the base of the metal stand, it can be moved around with the tablet and stand.
This is the only accessory we offer for the BBPOS card reader at the moment. The cradle is also the charging port for the reader.
It’s to remain 100% stationary.
Orders placed in your establishment can be sent to printers to print prep tickets or display on KDS screens. That’s entirely up to you.
Arryved supports Thermal and Impact Epson printers with Ethernet or Wireless options.
Thermal Printers: Apply text by heat, since they are heat sensitive, they’re not recommended to live in the kitchen. They’re generally used for guest receipts or bar tickets. They print on single-ply thermal paper.
Impact Printers: Use ink and support single-ply or two-ply paper. They are generally used for kitchen tickets.
Ethernet or Wireless: Both printer types are offered in an Ethernet or Wireless version. Arryved strongly encourages the Ethernet printer if it can be hardwired to your router. The hardwire approach is always more reliable than Wireless, use it where you can.
Arryved is partnered with the best KDS in the biz! Fresh KDS. You’ll need a separate subscription plan with them that integrates with your Arryved POS. Learn More:
If you plan on using Arryved Online or OpenTab by Arryved, you’ll need an Arryved Print Controller if orders from those channels will print tickets. Print Controller acts as the middleman between your printers and orders from outside sources (i.e. guests’ smartphones or home computers).
Keep in mind, even when using Fresh KDS with OpenTab or Arryved Online, you’ll still need a Print Controller if orders from those channels print to your bar printer, if you use Print on Bump, or have a failsafe printer setup. Any printing from OpenTab and Arryved Online orders requires a Print Controller.
You can connect your cash drawer with your POS tablet and printer so it can be opened digitally, or you can simply open it manually with a key.
To open your cash drawer digitally, you’ll need a Thermal Epson printer.
Read the Cash Drawer Setup Guide to see how the drawer is opened through Arryved Service.
Arryved offers a barcode scanner to quickly order items that have a barcode. You can set up barcodes and SKUs in your Arryved Portal. Read the SKU & Barcode Setup Guide to learn how.
