Tip Pooling

Tip Pooling By Day

Tip pooling by day is where tips are shared among tipped Employees with one tip pool for the entire day. Tips can be divided up equally based on hours worked or Labor Roles can have different weighted portions of the tip pool using Arryved’s Tip Points. Reports that use tip pooling by day will allocate tips to tipped Employees in one of two ways as follows:

Standard Calculation

For all tipped Employees to share tips evenly, Tip Points will be assigned equally across all tipped Labor Roles. (Example: all tipped roles are assigned 1 Tip Point).

Total tips for the day: $200  | Total hours worked: 20 hours (Employees A+B+C)| Hourly tip rate of pay: $200/20 = $10 per hour

Employee A worked 6 hours

  • 6 hours x $10 = $60 in tip pay

Employee B worked 6 hours

  • 6 hours x $10 = $60 in tip pay

Employee C worked 8 hours

  • 8 hours x $10 = $80 in tip pay

With Weighted Tip Points

Different Tip Point values can be assigned to tipped Labor Roles so that Employees can have various allotments of the tip pool based on their role. Click the link to learn more about Tip Points

Total tips collected: $200

Tipped employees clocked in:

  • 1 Bartender assigned 10 Tip Points, worked 8 hours.

  • 1 Barback assigned 5 Tip Points, worked 4 hours

Total Tip Points in the pool: (10x8) + (5x4) = 100 Total Tip Points

Tip rate per Tip Point: $200/100 = $2 per Tip Point

Bartender receives: $2 x 80 Points = $160

Barback receives: $2 x 20 Points = $40

Reports

There are three reports that calculate tips totals to tipped Employees using the tip pooling by day method.

  1. Employee Time Card

    • The Employee Time Card report shows payroll and tip information for Employees. Tips are allocated using the tip pooling by day method. If the report is searched to show a range of days, each day will be broken out by row.

  2. Payroll Report

    • This report is similar to the Employee Time Card report, except the numbers will be a total of the range of days selected. For example, if viewing this report over a 2 week period, payroll and tip information will be totaled in the report’s fields for the whole 2-week period. The Employee Time Card report will have a separate row for each day of the week.

  3. End of Day Tip Summary

    • The End of Day Tip Summary is the report that records the details of actions performed in the End of Day Tool in Portal.

Activation: Please contact your Implementation Manager to discuss and activate any of these reports for you.

Tip Pooling By Shift

With tip pooling by shift, a single business day can have multiple tip pools where tips are allocated to Employees who worked during that “shift.” Tips can be divided up evenly from each tip pool segment based on hours worked or Labor Roles can have different weighted portions of the tip pool segment using Arryved’s Tip Points. Reports that use tip pooling by shift will allocate tips to tipped Employees in one of two ways as follows:

Standard Calculation

Tip pool segments are created throughout the day bookended by clock-in/clock-out times for tipped Employees. Every time a tipped employee clocks in/out, it will start/end a new tip pool segment. Portions of the tip pool segment are then divided to the tipped Employees working during that tip pool segment. For all tipped Employees to share tips evenly within the segment, Tip Points will be assigned equally across all tipped Labor Roles. (Example: all tipped roles are assigned 1 Tip Point).

Total tips collected during a tip pool segment: $200

Number of tipped Employees clocked in during that tip pool segment: 4

Tips allocated per Employee: $200/4 = $50 allocated to each Employee

With Weighted Tip Points

The tip pools segments are created as explained above. Different Tip Point values can be assigned to different Labor Roles so that Employees can have various allotments of the tip pool segment based on their role. Click the link to learn more about Tip Points

Total tips collected from the tip pool segment: $200

Total time of the tip pool segment: 4 hours

Tipped Employees clocked in:

  1. 2 Bartenders assigned 10 Tip Points per hour
  2. 1 Barback assigned 5 Tip Points per hour

Total Tip Points in the pool: (10x4x2) + (5x4x1) = 100 Total Tip Points

Tip rate per Tip Point: $200/100 = $2 per Tip Point

Bartenders each receive: $2 x 40(10 points x 4 hours) = $80

Barback receives: $2 x 20(5 points x 4 hours) = $40

Reports

There are two reports that calculate tip totals to tipped Employees using tip pooling by shift,

  1. Tips By Labor Hours (TBLH)

    • The Tips By Labor Hours report shows a breakdown of the tip pools created throughout the day and the tip totals allocated to each Employee. Tips are allocated to tips pools based on the time segment the tab was closed out during.

  2. TBLH With Timestamp By Order

    • The TBLH With Timestamp By Order report shows a breakdown of the tip pools created throughout the day and the tip totals allocated to Employees. Tips are allocated to tips pools based on the time segments where an order was placed. This report is the same as the TBLH report above, except the timestamp changes from time of closeout to time of order. A single tab can have tips allocated to different tip pool segments if orders were placed during them.

Activation: Please contact your Implementation Manager to discuss and activate any of these reports for you.
